La logique de la composition, le rapport avec les sources et les m&amp;eacute;canismes ironiques des pages manzoniennes inspirent Nievo, qui en revanche &amp;eacute;labore une digression plus large et plus vari&amp;eacute;e, inscrite dans une contrainte narrative plus stricte &amp;ndash; la narration &amp;agrave; la premi&amp;egrave;re personne de Carlo Altoviti &amp;ndash;&amp;nbsp;et connot&amp;eacute;e par des tonalit&amp;eacute;s humoristiques, r&amp;eacute;v&amp;eacute;lant une autre conception de l&amp;rsquo;histoire et de la possibilit&amp;eacute; d&amp;rsquo;intervention de l&amp;rsquo;&amp;ecirc;tre humain.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p style=&quot;text-align: justify;&quot;&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Abstract. &lt;/strong&gt;Through a comparative study of the historical digressions found in the first chapters of the &lt;em&gt;The Betrothed&lt;/em&gt; and the &lt;em&gt;Confessions of an Italian&lt;/em&gt;, this contribution articulates the critical &lt;em&gt;topos&lt;/em&gt; of Manzonian influence on Nievo. The compositional logic, the relationship with the sources and the mechanisms irony in Manzoni&amp;rsquo;s pages inspired Nievo who elaborated a more ample and varied digression and more strict narrative constraints &amp;ndash; Carlo Altoviti&amp;rsquo;s first-person narration &amp;ndash; with humorous connotations, revealing another conception of history and the possibility of human intervention.&lt;/p&gt;

La riflessione sulla poesia chiamata a rappresentare, con mezzi suoi propri, l&amp;rsquo;idea della storia, quello che la storia spinge a desiderare, trover&amp;agrave; sviluppo e compimento non solo nella &lt;em&gt;Lettre &amp;agrave; M&lt;sup&gt;r&lt;/sup&gt; Chauvet&lt;/em&gt;, ma soprattutto nelle opere degli anni Cinquanta &lt;em&gt;Del romanzo storico&lt;/em&gt; e &lt;em&gt;Dell&amp;rsquo;invenzione&lt;/em&gt;, a testimonianza della fedelt&amp;agrave; dell&amp;rsquo;autore ad un tema e ad un metodo inaggirabili per chi si misura con la rappresentazione del vero.&lt;/p&gt;

It is indeed possible to identify a first decisive formulation of the specific activity of the poet in its difference from the historian: faithful to the Aristotelian dictate, the author attributes to imitative art the task of representing not the facts, but rather the concepts, surpassing since 1816 the positions of French &lt;em&gt;Id&amp;eacute;ologues&lt;/em&gt; and approaching the perspective of the &lt;em&gt;Cours de litt&amp;eacute;rature dramatique&lt;/em&gt; by Schlegel. The reflection on the poetry called to represent, with its own means, the idea of ​​history, that is what history pushes to desire, will find development and fulfilment not only in the &lt;em&gt;Lettre &amp;agrave; Mr Chauvet&lt;/em&gt;, but especially in &lt;em&gt;The historical novel&lt;/em&gt; and &lt;em&gt;About invention &lt;/em&gt;(1850), testifying the author&amp;rsquo;s fidelity to an indispensable theme and to a needful method for those who measure themselves with the representation of the truth.&lt;/p&gt;
