<p><strong>Résumé. </strong>Dans les lettres de Catherine de Sienne, la notion de passage va bien au-delà du <em>santo Passaggio</em> au sens médiéval de <em>passagium ultramarinum</em>. Ce projet pontifical d’expédition maritime armée en Terre sainte, puis contre les Turcs, entre d’abord en résonance avec son propre désir de pèlerinage au saint Sépulcre, tout en s’inscrivant dans son vaste programme de Salut universel. Mais lorsqu’éclate le grand Schisme d’Occident en 1378, la <em>crux cismarina</em> s’impose : croisade à mener entre chrétiens aux portes de Rome assiégée par les troupes des schismatiques, nouveaux hérétiques. Cette évolution pousse Catherine à redéfinir la notion de « passage » : de son sens littéral de traversée maritime, il devient un passage sans voyage, au sens figuré. Parallèlement, à travers ses méditations, cette notion s’enrichit d’un sens moral pénitentiel de combat contre les péchés et d’un sens spirituel d’ultime Transit vers la Jérusalem céleste, destination à la fois individuelle et collective des chrétiens.</p>

<p><strong>Riassunto. </strong>Nelle lettere di Caterina da Siena, l’idea di passaggio supera di gran lunga il Santo Passaggio nel suo significato medievale di <em>passagium ultramarinum</em>. Questo progetto pontificio di spedizione marittima armata in Terra Santa, poi contro i Turchi, fa eco al suo desiderio di peregrinaggio al Santo Sepolcro, riallacciandosi al suo ampio programma di Salvezza universale. Ma con l’avvenimento del Grande Scisma d’Occidente nel 1378, s’impone la <em>crux cismarina</em>: una crociata tra cristiani, alle porte di Roma assediata dalle truppe degli scismatici, considerati nuovi eretici. Quest’evoluzione spinge Caterina a ridefinire il passaggio: dal suo senso letterale di traversata marittima, diventa un passaggio senza viaggio, in senso figurato. Nel contempo, nelle sue meditazioni, la nozione si arricchisce di un senso morale penitenziale di lotta contro i peccati e di un senso spirituale di Ultimo Transito verso la Gerusalemme Celeste, destinazione sia individuale che collettiva dei Cristiani.</p>

<p><strong>Abstract. </strong>In the letters of Catherine of Siena, the notion of passage goes far beyond the <em>Santo Passaggio</em> in the medieval sense of <em>passagium ultramarinum</em>. This pontifical project of an armed maritime expedition to the Holy Land, then against the Turks, first resonates with her own desire for a pilgrimage to the Holy Sepulchre, while at the same time being part of her vast programme of Universal Salvation. But when the great Western Schism broke out in 1378, the <em>crux cismarina</em> was imposed: a crusade to be led between Christians at the gates of Rome besieged by the troops of the schismatics, the new heretics. This evolution pushes Catherine to redefine the notion of «passage»: from its literal meaning of maritime crossing, it becomes a passage without a journey, figuratively speaking. At the same time, through her meditations, this notion was enriched by a penitential moral sense of fighting against sins and a spiritual sense of ultimate transit towards the heavenly Jerusalem, both an individual and collective destination for Christians.</p>
