<p align="JUSTIFY"><strong>Résumé.</strong> À la toute fin du XVIIe siècle, le scandale provoqué par l’arrestation du Père Froilán Díaz de Llanos, confesseur de Charles II, ne tient pas seulement à la haute qualité des personnes impliquées, il est dû également au dévoilement de l’intimité royale. L’infertilité du couple royal fait l’objet de toute l’attention des cours espagnole et européennes. Les exorcismes auxquels se livre le roi espagnol en présence de son confesseur sont au centre d’intérêts contraires et conduisent la reine Marie-Anne de Neubourg à organiser l’arrestation de ce dernier en mars 1699. L’affaire éclate et fait d’autant plus de bruit qu’elle a trait au corps de Charles II et, au-delà, au respect de l’institution monarchique. Scandale et intimité se mêlent ici pour donner à comprendre le climat de grande tension liée aux enjeux de la fin du règne du dernier des Habsbourg d’Espagne.</p>

<p align="JUSTIFY"><strong>Resumen.</strong> <span lang="es-ES">A finales del siglo XVII, el escándalo que provocó la detención del Padre Froilán Díaz de Llanos, confesor de Carlos II, no solo se debe a la alta dignidad de las personas implicadas, se explica también por el desvelo de la intimidad regia. La infertilidad del matrimonio real es objeto de particular atención por parte de las cortes españolas y europeas. Los exorcismos que conoce el rey español en presencia de su confesor están en el centro de intereses contrarios y conducen a la reina Mariana de Neoburgo a fomentar la detención de este último en marzo de 1699. El caso provoca gran ruido tanto más cuanto que tiene que ver con el cuerpo de Carlos II y, más allá, el respeto de la institución monárquica. Escándalo e intimidad se mezclan aquí para dar a entender el clima de gran tensión relacionada con las expectativas de finales de reinado del último de los Habsburgo de España.</span></p>

<p align="JUSTIFY"><span lang="en-US"><strong>Abstract.</strong> </span><span lang="en-US">At the end of the seventeenth century, the scandal caused by the arrest of father Froilán Díaz de Llanos, confessor of Charles II, is not only due to the high dignity of the persons involved, but is also explained because the royal intimacy was revealed. The Spanish and European courts pay special attention to the issue of the infertility of the royal couple. The exorcisms known by the Spanish king in the presence of his confessor are central to opposing interests and lead Queen Mariana of Neuburg to encourage the arrest of the latter in March 1699. The case caused much noise, all the more so as it concerned the body of Charles II, and furthermore, respect for the monarchical institution. Scandal and intimacy are mixed here to give an idea of the climate of great tension related to the expectations at the end of the reign of the last of the Habsburgs of Spain.</span></p>
