Abstract: Between September 26 and 27, 2014, about a hundred students from the Escuela Normal Rural de Ayotzinapa, in the Mexican state of Guerrero, were brutally attacked in what is known as “the night of Iguala”. Some died, others were injured and 43 more kidnapped by state forces and hit men in the service of the Government. Facing the fallacious “historical truth” held by the Mexican Government, Ayotzinapa. El rostro de los desaparecidos (2016), by novelist Tryno Maldonado, is a work based on the collection of testimonies of witnesses, survivors and family members that reconstructs, from different narrative perspectives, the history of what happened. This article analyzes the way in which the book brings into play both fiction and testimony to account for this event. The use of these strategies (referential and poetic) moves the reader and encourages empathy in order to produce emotional communities that make the text political on the basis of the affective.
