Abstract: From the beginning, the Decameron is presented as a book of expatriation, an expatriation that is indeed spatial, but also and above all cultural, intellectual, civil. From this comes the possibility of reading the book as an attempt to reconstruct a society infected not only by the disease, but also by the fall of the laws of daily living together, which the plague has fearfully fed. It should therefore come as no surprise that figures of wandering appear with a certain frequency in the collection. The essay focuses on some of them, with female (Geneva, Giletta di Nerbona) and male (Count d’Anguersa, Tedaldo) protagonists, whose movements are often, and concretely, presented as those of pilgrims, sometimes explicitly disguised, and even sexually changed (Geneva). The essay traces a line of continuity between their experience and that of the narrators of the collection.
