<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Resumen. </strong>Los relatos de viajeros castellanos a Oriente en los siglos XV y XVI ofrecen interesantes testimonios sobre las variadas reacciones de los viajeros ante uno de los más importantes escollos a los que estos se enfrentan durante sus periplos: el encuentro con la alteridad. La entrada en el universo del Otro puede resultar imposible en algunas ocasiones, otras veces puede hacerse de forma gradual y paulatina o en ciertas circunstancias se puede negociar para, por ejemplo, eludir cambios de comportamiento que atentan contra la identidad del viajero. Este traspaso o no de las fronteras culturales se verbaliza en los relatos mediante recursos retóricos diversos como son, entre otros, la organización informativa de los textos, el tipo de léxico empleado o la inserción de intercambios orales entre viajeros y naturales.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Victoria BEGUELIN-ARGIMON</strong><strong>,</strong><strong>“Castilians in the East (15th-16th centuries): crossing the borders of otherness”</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Abstract. </strong>The Castilian travel Literature in the East during the XV<sup>th</sup> and XVI<sup>th</sup> Centuries presents interesting testimonies about the different responses the travellers gave to one of the most important difficulties they had to face during their trip: the meeting with Otherness. On some occasions, reaching the Universe of the Other turns out to be impossible; on others, it is slow and progressive; in other cases, it can be negotiated in order to escape to behaviour changes that will damage the traveller’s identity. This passage or non-passage of the cultural boundaries is verbalized in this Literature with a lot of rhetorical tools such as the informative organization of the texts, the kind of vocabulary used or the quotation of spoken dialogues between travellers and natives.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Résumé. </strong>Les récits des voyageurs castillans en Orient aux XV<sup>e </sup>et XVI<sup>e</sup> siècles offrent d’intéressants témoignages sur les réactions variées des voyageurs face à l’un des plus importants écueils que ceux-ci doivent affronter pendant leurs périples : la rencontre avec l’altérité. L’entrée dans l’univers de l’Autre peut parfois s’avérer impossible, d’autres fois elle peut se faire de façon lente et graduelle ou, encore, dans certaines occasions, elle peut être négociée pour, par exemple, échapper à des changements de comportement qui porteraient atteinte à l’identité du voyageur. Ce passage ou non-passage des frontières culturelles est verbalisé dans les récits moyennant de nombreuses ressources rhétoriques telles que, entre autres, l’organisation informative des textes, le type de lexique employé ou l’insertion d’échanges oraux entre voyageurs et autochtones.</p>
