Abstract. This article looks at how Burgundian literature, inspired by the romance of Mediterranean travel, is reviving the taste for overseas passage, both as a pilgrimage and as a military action. Under the influence of contemporary travel narratives, the relationships of passage in fiction depict itineraries that conform to the reality of the routes traditionally used by pilgrims and merchants; they are thus enriched with precise geographical indications and take up the familiar names of travellers (especially the high places of devotion in the Holy Land). By depicting the exemplary peregrinations of legendary princes, fiction literature thus revives interest in the reconquest of the Holy Land and promotes among the Burgundian warrior elite the missions of the Christian knight, called since 1454 and the famous Pheasant Banquet to take up the cross to defend threatened Christendom.
