<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Résumé. </strong>Le Palais des Beaux-Arts de Lille fait partie des rares musées français qui comptent dans leurs collections des œuvres de Goya. Les deux chefs-d’œuvre du maître espagnol qui y sont exposés, <em>Las Viejas, o El Tiempo</em> et <em>Las Jóvenes, o</em> <em>La Carta,</em> contribuent ainsi largement à la renommée du musée. Devenus aujourd’hui indissociables, ces deux tableaux ont pourtant été conçus indépendamment. C’est ce que cet article s’attache à montrer. Le récit de leur trajectoire, quelque peu épique, ainsi que l’étude de leur histoire matérielle complexe permettent effectivement d’identifier deux contextes de création distincts et de comprendre comment le temps a conduit à l’association étroite de ces deux peintures, forgeant ainsi leur légende et créant entre elles une résonance impérissable.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Resumen. </strong>El Palacio de Bellas Artes de Lille forma parte de los pocos museos franceses que abarcan obras de Goya en sus colecciones. Las dos obras maestras del pintor español allí expuestas, <em>Las Viejas, o El Tiempo</em> y <em>Las Jóvenes, o La Carta</em>, participan así sobradamente de la fama del museo. Hoy indisociables, estos dos cuadros fueron concebidos sin embargo de manera independiente. Este artículo se aplica a mostrarlo. El relato de sus trayectorias, algo épicas, así como el estudio de sus historias materiales complejas permiten efectivamente identificar dos contextos de creación distintos y entender cómo el tiempo llevó a asociar estrechamente estas dos pinturas, forjando así su leyenda y creando entre ambas una resonancia imperecedera.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Abstract. </strong>The Palace of Fine Arts of Lille is one of the few French museums which include works of Goya in their collections. The two masterpieces of the Spanish painter which are exposed there, <em>Las Viejas</em>, <em>o</em> <em>El Tiempo</em> y <em>Las Jóvenes o La Carta</em>, thus contribute to a great extent to the museum’s renown. Now inseparable, those two canvases were however conceived independently. This is what this article endeavours to show. Indeed, the account of the somewhat epic trajectory of those two paintings, as well as the study of their complex material history, allow us to identify two distinct contexts of creation and to understand how time led to their close association, forging in this way their legend and creating between them a indestructible resonance.</p>
