<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Résumé</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Le 12 septembre 1793, le Comité de Salut Public demande au peintre Jacques-Louis David de « multiplier les gravures et les caricatures qui peuvent réveiller l’esprit public et faire sentir combien sont atroces et ridicules les ennemis de la liberté de la République ». On sait que l’artiste a livré deux gravures,<em> L’Armée des Cruches</em> et <em>Le</em> <em>Gouvernement Anglais, </em>dont l’analyse constitue la partie centrale de cette communication.Après avoir évoqué les principales étapes de la carrière de David avant 1791 et rappelé dans quelles circonstances et de quelle manière l’artiste s’est mis au service de la Révolution, il est proposé en effet d’étudier ses compositions en les confrontant à certaines gravures relevant de la même commande dont celles de Chaudet ou de Naigeon et en les rapprochant des estampes de Gillray publiées en Angleterre à la même époque.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">El 12 de setiembre de 1793, el Comité de Salvación Pública le pide al pintor Jacques-Louis David “multiplicar los grabados y las caricaturas que pueden despertar el espíritu público y dar a percibir cuán atroces y ridículos son los enemigos de la libertad de la República”. Se sabe que el artista entregó dos grabados, <em>L’Armée des Cruches</em> y <em>Le Gouvernement Anglais</em>, cuyo análisis constituye la parte central de esta comunicación. Después de evocar las principales etapas de la carrera de David antes de 1791 y de recordar en cuáles circunstancias y de qué manera el artista se puso al servicio de la Revolución, el artículo se propone en efecto estudiar sus composiciones confrontándolas a ciertos grabados procedentes del mismo encargo, los de Chaudet o de Naigeon por ejemplo, y comparándolas con las estampas de Gillray publicadas en Inglaterra en la misma época.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Abstract</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">On 12<sup>th</sup> September 1793, the Committee of Public Safety asked the painter Jacques-Louis David to “multiply the prints and the caricatures able to reawaken the public spirit and make one feel how atrocious and ridiculous the enemies of the freedom of the Republic are”. It is known that the artist delivered two prints: <em>L’Armée des Cruches </em>and <em>Le Gouvernement Anglais</em>, whose analysis constitutes the central part of this presentation. Indeed, after mentioning the main stages of David’s career before 1791 and then reminding the way – and the circumstances under which – the artist put himself at the service of the Revolution, this article intends to study his compositions by comparing them to a number of prints from the same commission, including those of Chaudet or Naigeon, and by drawing a parallel between them and Gillray’s etchings published in England at the same period.</p>
