<p><strong>Resumé.</strong> En 1593, la cinquième Congrégation Générale de l’ordre ignacien adopta un statut de pureté de sang. Si la promulgation du décret 52 fut l’aboutissement d’un processus long et complexe, l’argument principal du rejet des <em>conversos</em> invoqué par une faction italo-portugaise jésuite fut la spiritualité de ces derniers, jugée exogène à l’ordre. En associant les jésuites proches du Général François de Borgia à des membres néfastes pour le corps de la Compagnie, il s’agissait pour cette faction de déplacer les jésuites espagnols qui avaient contribué à forger la première identité de la Compagnie de Jésus. La tête de file de contestation de l’adoption du décret en Espagne fut le jésuite Pedro de Ribadeneyra. Revendiquant ce qu’il jugeait être l’ « esprit du Père » et une interprétation de l’Institut fidèle aux origines, il promut une conception de l’ordre unitaire, exempte de toute discrimination et basée sur le charisme d’Ignace de Loyola, tout en défendant le privilège hispanique lié à la fondation.</p>

<p><strong>Resumen.</strong> En 1593, la quinta Congregación General de la orden ignaciana adoptó un estatuto de limpieza de sangre. Aunque la promulgación del decreto 52 fue el resultado de un proceso largo y complejo, el argumento principal del rechazo a los conversos defendido por una facción italiano-portuguesa jesuita fue la espiritualidad de esos jesuitas, que presentaba como un elemento exógeno a la orden. Al asociar los jesuitas protegidos por el General Francisco de Borja a miembros corruptos, peligrosos para el cuerpo de la Compañía, esa facción intentaba desplazar a los jesuitas españoles que habían contribuido a forjar la primera identidad de la Compañía de Jesús. En España, fue Pedro de Ribadeneyra quien lideró el movimiento que se opuso al decreto. Reivindicando lo que consideraba ser el « espíritu del Padre » y una interpretación del Instituto fiel a los orígenes, promovió una concepción unitaria de la orden, exenta de cualquier discriminación y basada en el carisma de Ignacio de Loyola, al mismo tiempo que defendía el privilegio hispánico heredado de la fundación.</p>

<p><strong><strong><strong>Claire BOUVIER, « Controversies about New Christians in the Society of Jesus: the defense of the <em>conversos</em> of Father Pedro de Ribadeneyra (1526-1611) ».</strong></strong></strong></p>
<p><strong>Abstract.</strong> In 1593, the Society of Jesus’ fifth General Congregation adopted a purity-of-blood law. Even if the procces of adoption was long and complex, the main argument for rejecting the conversos was defended by an italian-portuguese group of jesuits who attacked the jesuits of jewish lineage’s beliefs, supposed to be different from the rest of the order’s beliefs. This argument associated some jesuits close to the General Francisco de Borja with some members dangerous for the Society, in order to eject spanish jesuits who had built the first identity of the Society of Jesus. The decret was contested in Spain, an the leader of the protest was Pedro de Ribadeneyra. Defending the respect of what he called "the Father’s spirit" and a vision of the Institute who seeked to be closer to the origins, he promoted a unitary vision of the order, refusing segregation of any kind and based upon Loyola’s charisma, and also defended the hispanic privilege linked to the foundation of the order.</p>
