How does fiction literature deal with this situation, when journalists investigating on the ground are threatened with death or themselves victims of criminal gangs and/or the police, the army and the corrupt authorities of the Mexican migration administration? What is the role of fictional creation, of this possible world built by literature, when reality is atrocious and criminal? Within a group of writers with honed and original styles, Emiliano Monge projects the unbearable suffering experienced by the Central Americans into the small criminal world of a gang of kidnappers looking at the same time Dantean and basely vulgar. In the novel Las tierras arrasadas (2015), he creates the wilderness of a jungle that turns into a prison and tomb for desperate populations. Does the love story between Epitafio and Estela, at the head of the gang of delinquents, modulate the listening/reading we can make of the victims’ interlaced voices, borrowed from reality and constituted as a plaintive choir throbbing through the pages? Conversely, what function do these voices find in the fictional universe, how do they modify it?

Keywords: Mexico, migrants, fiction, voices, love.

Télécharger l'article complet (pdf, 1Mb)

Sat, 25 Apr 2020 16:32:00 +0200 marianne.bloch-robin
