Résumé. La tenson (V 882-898) du manuscrit Vaticano Latino 3793 est une dispute en vers opposant six Florentins (Monte Andrea, Chiaro Davanzati, Lambertuccio Frescobaldi, Federigo Gualterotti, Cione et Beroardo) qui, répondant à la requête de Monte Andrea, débattent de la venue en Italie, vers 1280, d’un rival de Charles d’Anjou et de ses chances de victoire. Ce type de débat, récurrent dans la poésie florentine de ces années-là est marqué par le caractère sinon prophétique du moins prédictif de l’événement discuté, et par son caractère politique. Il est par suite souvent obscur et consiste moins en un débat proprement dit qu’en une juxtaposition de points de vue opposés proférés comme des défis. Dans la tenson présente, la bataille de pronostics se double vers la fin d’une bataille de rimes que gagne, contre le champion de la virtuosité métrique favorable à Charles d’Anjou (Monte Andrea), le poète occasionnel partisan de l’empereur d’Allemagne (Lambertuccio Frescobaldi).

Riassunto. La tenzone (V 882-898) del manoscritto Vaticano Latino 3793 è una disputa in versi che oppone sei fiorentini (Monte Andrea, Chiaro Davanzati, Lambertuccio Frescobaldi, Federigo Gualterotti, Cione e Beroardo) che, rispondendo a una proposta di Monte Andrea, discutono della possibile discesa in Italia, verso il 1280, di un oppositore a Carlo d’Angiò e della sua capacità a vincere. Le caratteristiche di questo tipo di dibattito — ricorrente nella poesia fiorentina di quegli anni — dipendono dalla natura profetica e politica dell’argomento discusso : spesso oscuro, esso si organizza in un seguito di pareri opposti che sfidano l’avversario. Qui, la gara delle predizioni si unisce a una gara metrica sempre più ermetica, vinta non dal campione del virtuosismo metrico partigiano di Carlo d’Angiò (Monte Andrea), ma dal poeta occasionale fautore dell’imperatore tedesco (Lambertuccio Frescobaldi).

Abstract. The tenson (V 882-892) of the Vaticano Latino 3793 manuscript is a poetic feud between six Florentines (Monte Andrea, Chiaro Davanzati, Lambertuccio Frescobaldi, Federigo Gualterotti, Cione e Beroardo) who, following the request by Monte Andrea, debate about the arrival in Italy, around 1280, of Charles of Anjou's rival, and the possibility he has of victory. The prophetic, or at least the predictive tone, as well as the political aspect being discussed is characteristic of this type of debate which frequently took place in those years. As the debate progresses, it often loses clarity and becomes more about expressing their personal points of view to defy each other rather than developing a proper debate. In the present tenson, the argument about the chances of victory doubles towards the end with an intensified battle of rime. The previous champion of poetic virtuosity (Monte Andrea) who was in favour of Charles of Anjou is outrimed by the novice poet, (Lambertuccio Frescobaldi), a fervent believer in the German emperor.
